OUR APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

You have an idea for an application - and would like to know how much it costs to develop. Unfortunately due to the enourmous scope for development, it is simply not possible for us to give you a price over the phone. Application development is complex, it is not like creating a webpage. As a guideline, application development is most likely to start at around $3,000 for the most simple of apps. In general the time required, and cost, of designing and developing software can vary considerably depending on your requirements and what you are trying to achieve.

If you have an idea the best initial way forward is for you to email us outlining your idea for an application. The more information you can give us about the kind of application you are hoping to build and the functionality you would like to see, the more accurately we can judge the amount of work that will be required. Ususally we will respond with a couple of questions before giving you a rough, ball-park figure for the cost of developing your application.

When looking to build a house, one can guess at the cost, but for an accurate quote you need to have completed architectural plans, material lists and calculated labour costs.

Software development is the same. We will not know the full cost until the entire project has been carefully detailed and planned. Only then can we give you a fixed quote for designing and developing your application.

Here at Activate Design we believe in giving fixed quotes for the work we do, doing so provides confidence to our clients in making the decision to go ahead. Because of this we have a very careful process that we go through to ensure that we have understood exactly what work a job will need before we give the quote.

A good quote does take time and investment on our part, and we do charge for the process of providing it whether or not the job goes forward. In the event that the job does go forward the cost of the quote will be rolled into the final price.

For you the upside of this is that the final document will provide a detailed specification of the work that you can take to other vendors to easily get additional quotes, and the quote given will be a final cost, in the event that providing the work requested takes longer than expected Activate Design will not charge for this additional time.

STAGE 1 - Initial Meeting

After you have emailed us, and we have responded with a ball-park costing for your application. The next step is to have a meeting to talk in person to communicate the ideas futher. This can be done in person or on skype. We may need a few of these discussions before moving forward.

STAGE 2 - Presentation

We will present to you our detailed application development plan based on our discussions and the research undertaken by our team. This may include some initial layout screenshots or interactive PDF showing the navigational structure of the application. Usually our clients will take some time to think about our proposal and decide if there are any additional requirements or functionaliy required. If there are, then we will have another meeting and then repeat the presentation process.

Once the plan from STAGE 2 has been agreed upon and accepted. We will then workout the full cost of developing this plan. We will present you with the fixed quote for the work, the detailed plan we have worked on, a time-frame for completion - and a invoice for the time involved so far. This invoice is payable whether or not the project goes ahead but is rolled into the final price of the project.

Upon acceptance of our quotation, we will begin to design and develop the application to the agreed plan. Should anything additional be added to this project then we will advise of the additional costs.

Once we have completed the application then it will either needed to be released to the online App Store or Installed on your 'in-house' devices. We will provide support for doing this, however - applications submitted to the App Store must be done under your own account. We can help you get a account setup - but we cannot release the application for you.

We can provide on-going support for your application. If there are any bugs present in the software that are our fault then we will fix these at no cost. Additional functionality, updates, new releases and additional support required will be charged.
